DANCE WITH MY FATHER

Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around ‘til I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved
If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
I’d play a song that would never, ever end
How I’d love, love, love
To dance with my father again
When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way, I would run from her to him
He’d make me laugh just to comfort me
Then finally make me do just what my mama said
Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me
If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him
I’d play a song that would never, ever end
‘Cause I’d love, love, love
To dance with my father again
Sometimes I’d listen outside her door
And I’d hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me
I know I’m praying for much too much
But could you send back the only man she loved
I know you don’t do it usually
But dear Lord she’s dying
To dance with my father again
Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream

Now, this song is extremely sad (it is one of the few songs that can make me cry), but it is so beautiful and reminds me of my dad. Everytime I hear this, I wish my father is alive and dance with him when I'm turn into 18 yrs. old. I wish I could go back in my past and fix all the mistakes I've done to him. Since he died, 7 months ago all the memories will always stay in our mind and heart. HE is still the BEST DAD I've ever seen and I will always treasure and cherish the happiest moment that we get together when he is alive.

I remember when he is still alive, I always pray to God that give him a strength and good health to see us wearing a toga and graduation cup and give thank to him because all the sacrifices that he done to us. Unfortunately, God already get him to us but I always dream that me and my father is dancing in my debut party.

“I’d play a song that would never ever end, how I’d love, love, love to dance with my father again”
- Luther Vandross, Dance with my Father.

  2. I believe that what we become depends on what our fathers teach us at odd moments, when they aren't trying to teach us. We are formed by little scraps of wisdom. I know your FATHER was Fantastic, Awesome, Terrific, Honorable, Excellent and Remarkable. :) I know right now, even tough he's not here HE WAS SO PROUD OF YOU! :) And He loves you with all his heart. :>
